It’s a good practice to meditate on God’s goodness and unmerited favor.
The world would have us focus on our pain … and a wide assortment of ways to artificially numb ourselves. However, it’s not the pain that causes us problems in relationships. It’s our defensiveness against it.
We just want our pain to go away, instead of seeking comfort from those who love us. We don’t like to be vulnerable, so we withdraw, deny, attack, criticize, and/or blame.
Jesus says,
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33b)
The Lord is near to all who call on him, so we are not alone in our struggles. We have the Lord, and we have each other. Let us then bear one another’s burdens and rejoice together that we are not alone in our suffering.
